What exactly is going on here? Oh, it’s just what happens when a squid listens to Cyprus Hill.
Apparently, the color-changing tissue that lets squid camouflage and adapt to their environment is controlled by the nervous system and – as much as I’d like to imagine that squid are just partial to early 90’s hip-hop – is triggered by the naturally-occurring electrical currents in the squid’s body. In this instance, scientists used music to generate electrical currents into a piece of humanely anesthetized squid tissue and filmed the results through a microscope. So cool.
