For us, it’s a means of simple, easy living, and an appreciation of the details. It’s this shared mentality that united us to create a collection of eyewear that celebrates both the handcrafted process, and the Pacific coastline that inspires our unique artforms.

Our collaborative Surf Resin collection features Italian acetate and genuine hardwood frames, complimented by Shaper Studios’ custom bio-based surf resin. All frames are outfitted with polarized lenses to match the one-of-a-kind surf bio-resin inlays.

Shwood Eyewear Forest Collection https://experimentwithnature.com/02-videos/shwood-eyewear-forest-collection/ https://experimentwithnature.com/02-videos/shwood-eyewear-forest-collection/#comments Tue, 20 Sep 2016 01:00:47 +0000 http://experimentwithnature.com/?p=4772 A walk beneath the canopy of the Pacific Northwest forests inspires a feeling of tranquility unmatched by many other places. Your senses are awakened by the seemingly endless palette of colors, textures, and sounds created by the months upon months of rainfall.

Existing in a state of constant growth and evolution, all life forms seem to intertwine and coexist.  To harness the lush textures and deep colors of this inspiring environment, we’ve foraged and transformed an assortment of moss and pinecones into eyewear that exhibits a collage of the forest floor.

Rob Mulholland – Vestige https://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/rob-mulholland-vestige/ https://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/rob-mulholland-vestige/#comments Wed, 10 Aug 2016 14:10:26 +0000 http://experimentwithnature.com/?p=4760 Artist Rob Mulholland found inspiration for his piece, Vestige, in the rolling, wooded hills of his native Scotland. Formerly an area used for grazing sheep, the herders were moved after the second World War to grow much-needed timber. Moved by the traces left, he created a community of eerie, ghostly mirrored sculptures. The visual void created by the sculptures reminds the viewers of the previous occupants and the space they left when the area was returned to nature.

See more about Vestige here.

Floating Piers – Christo https://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/floating-piers-christo/ https://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/floating-piers-christo/#comments Tue, 19 Jul 2016 14:05:03 +0000 http://experimentwithnature.com/?p=4747 220,000 polyethylene cubes. 70,000 square meters of fabric. 160 anchors. This is what went into famed artist Christo’s newest installation in Lake Iseo in northern Italy that lasted for a mere 16 days. Stretching almost 2 miles in total, the three walkways connected two towns and an island for the first time ever. In addition to the striking visual of the saffron-colored fabric stretching across the water and into the town, it allowed the estimated 1.2 million visitors to feel like they were walking over water, far out away from the town. To see the preparation, execution, and more of the finished product, head over to Christo’s website.

Shwood Eyewear Sea Collection https://experimentwithnature.com/06-experiments/sea-collection/ https://experimentwithnature.com/06-experiments/sea-collection/#comments Mon, 20 Jun 2016 13:00:06 +0000 http://experimentwithnature.com/?p=4730 The jagged coastlines of the Pacific Northwest are a juxtaposition of strength and grace.  Peppered with tide pools, plant life, and rock formations, the environment is teeming with life, both above and below the surface.

A close look into the nooks and crannies of the landscape reveals a hidden world of colors and textures.  To harness the spirit of these coastal  environments we’ve gathered and transformed an assortment of seashells into eyewear that exhibits a collage of the ocean floor.

The Ephemeral Art of Andy Goldsworthy https://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/andy-goldsworthy/ https://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/andy-goldsworthy/#comments Tue, 31 May 2016 15:05:50 +0000 http://experimentwithnature.com/?p=4708 Sculpture and photographer Andy Goldsworthy (British, b.1956) has spent the last several decades creating transitory, site-specific installations around the English and Scottish countryside. Using largely found materials, he builds his works on-site, allowing them to  form organically and intuitively.

His works are intentionally temporary and he views the inherent decay as a part of the work itself. See more of his works below and read a great interview with the artist over at NPR.

The Lowline – The World’s First Underground Park https://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/the-lowline/ https://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/the-lowline/#comments Wed, 04 May 2016 14:50:35 +0000 http://experimentwithnature.com/?p=4676 An abandoned subway stop in Manhattan’s Lower East Side is the future site of an amazing feat of ingenuity: the world’s first underground park. Using new technology that allows funneling sunlight from the street above, the three-block-long park will host flourishing plantlife, bringing nature back into a previously desolate urban artifact.

The Lowline is projected to open in 2020. For a peek at what the park will be like, the Lowline Lab, which shows off the technology with its indoor garden, is currently available to the public each weekend at 140 Essex Street, New York. For more information, visit the Lowline’s website.

The Badlands Collection https://experimentwithnature.com/02-videos/the-badlands-collection/ https://experimentwithnature.com/02-videos/the-badlands-collection/#comments Mon, 14 Mar 2016 17:28:49 +0000 http://experimentwithnature.com/?p=4567 Inspiration is easily found but rarely encapsulated. With the new Badlands collection, we’ve mastered a new process of stabilization of natural materials.  Using high-pressure resin casting and our hand-made processing technique, we’ve taken inspiration from elements of the most awe-inspiring environments in the world and transformed them into one-of-a-kind wearable art.

Just as every inspirational experience is unique, so is every handmade piece of this collection.
