In Carey’s words “The route I would take and the things I planned on seeing were a mystery card. I packed my bags on Wednesday May 28th, 2014 and met my cousin on Mt. Hood. The journey would be taken with his truck and trailer.”

Journey 006 – Without Purpose http://experimentwithnature.com/01-journeys/journey-006-without-purpose/ http://experimentwithnature.com/01-journeys/journey-006-without-purpose/#comments Wed, 02 Jul 2014 16:57:19 +0000 http://experimentwithnature.com/?p=3702 Journey 006 features Jesse Morrow and crew as they travel the American Southwest, head up the California coast, and return to their home base of Seattle. Originally their trip was planned to support a coffee roaster initiative, interviewing individual roasters, shooting photos and compiling it all into a book of sorts. After several roasters pulled out of the project last minute Jesse was left with a decision to make– call off the trip or continue as planned, without a true purpose for the trip.

Journey 005 – SF / OR http://experimentwithnature.com/10-profiles/journey-004-sf-or/ http://experimentwithnature.com/10-profiles/journey-004-sf-or/#comments Fri, 20 Jun 2014 17:16:12 +0000 http://experimentwithnature.com/?p=3652 For the fifth installment of our Journeys photo essay series we follow along with Shwood Collaborator Jess Bianchi on a road trip from San Francisco to Oregon. Jess and his friend Emily drive his van along Highway 101 on the way up– pulling over to camp, search for waves, explore the redwoods, and truly experience the majestic stretch of coastline. Jess offers an interesting perspective on the changing of climates and the unique beauty of the Pacific Northwest having grown up on the island of Kaua’i.

BARRY UNDERWOOD http://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/barry-underwood/ http://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/barry-underwood/#comments Thu, 06 Sep 2012 17:25:08 +0000 http://experimentwithnature.com/?p=2204 Anyone who’s taken Digital Photography 101 knows that long-exposure photos are easy to make but near-impossible to perfect. Leaving the shutter open, the artist will blindly “paint” the light onto the open exposure and hopes it turns out the way they envisioned. In Barry Underwood’s case, he has not only mastered the art of the long exposure, but has seductively integrated his vision into the landscape to create images that look straight out of a fairytale.

Rabbit Island http://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/rabbit-island/ http://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/rabbit-island/#comments Wed, 01 Feb 2012 00:50:32 +0000 http://experimentwithnature.com/?p=1371 “Rabbit Island is a remote, 90-acre, forested island located in Lake Superior, Michigan. I lived on the island for over a month in the summer of 2011 breaking ground on a sustainable artist residency program. Working with a group of volunteers and with the support of our Kickstarter supporters we have already completed an Adirondack shelter which will serve as the main camp, a kitchen, library, fully stocked toolshed, and more. I’ll be returning to the island in 2012 with the goal of completing a small treehouse studio and creating work for a forthcoming exhibition related to Rabbit Island and the residency program.” – Andrew Ranville

The over sized nest is intended to inspire others to make the trek into the woods surrounding Mt. Hood. Those who successfully locate the fort are encouraged to add onto the structure and share with others. The first person to discover the nest will be greeted with a free pair of sunglasses stashed inside! Happy hunting…
