Shwood’s newest mixtape – No.6 – checks back in with some bands that have been featured previously and introduces some new faces as well. Among mixtape ‘rookies’ are Wooden Indian Burial Ground slinging raucous, feedback-laced sing along rock n’ roll; Pure Bathing Culture channeling Cyndi Lauper’s softer side into the ebbs and swells of an ocean at the magic hour; and Minden manhandling serpentine melodies over subtly synthy harmonies and completely danceable beats.

Radiation City

We ventured out to Forest Grove, OR with rapidly-up-and-coming Portland band Radiation City to visit the botanical garden that they help maintain when not on tour. Surrounded by budding rhododendrons, 30-year old bonsai, and the glow of a rare sunny winter day, Cameron, Lizzy and Matt discuss their personal investment in the garden, their work-music-life balance and the cassette tape label they run on the side, Apes Tapes.

Radiation City is currently in Austin for SXSW and will be touring back up to Oregon. If they come through your town, make sure to check out their great live show (and tell them we say “hi).
