To complete this project, our product design team harnessed the power of oxidization to bring brilliant turquoise, blues, and golds from genuine brass. These brass inlays are then applied to two versions of our classic Canby silhouette for a look that has truly stood against the tests of time. To accomplish the oxidizing process that normally can take months to years, we apply a calculated mixture of ammonia & salt to raw brass in a controlled container. When cleaned and polished after a day-long resting period, the results are quite stunning.

Alkama http://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/alkama/ http://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/alkama/#comments Wed, 17 Oct 2012 19:15:15 +0000 http://experimentwithnature.com/?p=2432 Experimenting with nature can mean a lot of things, but French artist Frédéric Fontenoy took it somewhere we’d never think to venture, and it’s actually really cool.

If you can’t quite tell what you’re looking at, the Alkama series was created by mixing blood and milk (yes, you read that right). Once you get past the initial gag factor and swear to never drink strawberry milk again, the results are actually more beautiful than gross.

Poetic Cosmos of the Breath http://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/poetic-cosmos-of-the-breath/ http://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/poetic-cosmos-of-the-breath/#comments Tue, 18 Sep 2012 18:38:54 +0000 http://experimentwithnature.com/?p=2237 Everyone remembers parachute day in elementary school gym class; grabbing a side of the seemingly-enormous circle of rainbow fabric and trying hard to ruffle it up high enough to run underneath. This is kind of like that, times infinity. Argentinian artist Tomás Saraceno calls this live-installation project Poetic Cosmos of the Breath. Participants gathered around a giant foil circle that began to inflate at sunrise. Gradually reflecting the sun’s rays throughout its interior, the cloud-like wonderland became filled with colors and light, creating a surreal visual engulfment for those inside.
