“Time moves differently when you are on a trip like this. Each day is packed with an endless amount of things to keep you busy so time feels like it’s flying by. Yet, the shear amount of memories makes yesterday feel like a month ago. It’s a strange experience that comes to life when you push your limits. This can happen for anyone, it has nothing to do with riding motorcycles. 2 wheels just happened to be our poison of choice for this adventure.

To me, this is what truly living feels like. That’s why we push all the negative thoughts aside and jump into the unknown. It’s what makes us real. I feel extremely fortunate to have truly lived for the past 30 days.

The only question that remains: what’s next?”

BLUE – A Portrait of the American Worker http://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/blue-a-portrait-of-the-american-worker/ http://experimentwithnature.com/03-found/blue-a-portrait-of-the-american-worker/#comments Tue, 04 Mar 2014 21:00:49 +0000 http://experimentwithnature.com/?p=3240 At Shwood, we believe in supporting and promoting US manufacturing, and recently came across an amazing photo survey by Wisconsin based photographer Carl Corey. The photographs are simple and pure, while extremely visually moving. They provide an inside look into the people and personalities that bring us many of the staple and truly American products.

Here is Carl’s description of the project:

America’s blue-collar workers are the foundation of the American Dream, and with our rapidly changing industrial landscape, I believe it is important to capture this moment in American industry.  BLUE – A Portrait of the American Worker is my way to do so. In May, 2012, I began photographing a comprehensive survey of the American worker that will take three years to produce; my images are primarily environmental portraits of these workers in their workplace as well as images that give color and context to the places in which they perform their trade. When BLUE launches in late 2015/early 2016, it will be comprised of a nationally traveling exhibition, an illustrated book, community programming and other unique opportunities for the companies featured in the project.

The intention is for BLUE to enlighten people about the American worker and bring focus to the benefits our workers provide by using an honest photographic aesthetic. Photography is already completed at such diverse companies as Homer Laughlin China, Woolrich Mills, ArcelorMittal Steel, Red Wing Shoes and Fraser Shipyards; the goal is to include workers from all facets of industry across the nation.
