Rabbit Island

“Rabbit Island is a remote, 90-acre, forested island located in Lake Superior, Michigan. I lived on the island for over a month in the summer of 2011 breaking ground on a sustainable artist residency program. Working with a group of volunteers and with the support of our Kickstarter supporters we have already completed an Adirondack shelter which will serve as the main camp, a kitchen, library, fully stocked toolshed, and more. I’ll be returning to the island in 2012 with the goal of completing a small treehouse studio and creating work for a forthcoming exhibition related to Rabbit Island and the residency program.” – Andrew Ranville

Spectacular achievement. Now you all need to read “Last Night in Twisted River” by John Irving and anything by Stephen King to enable your brain to fully capitalize on the experience. Because living on the edge needs to be edgey. In case the northern exposure has yet to impress upon that you are no longer in Oregon, anymore. And because you are young, fit and can move much faster than either of the above mentioned authors. Only when you need too, of course. Just make sure the snowmobiles are gassed up and ready to go 24/7. Just sayin’. Did I mention the REALLY BIG dog you should have?

When do you plan on going out to the island? I would like to help build the studio.

Thats a great idea. I’m sure you’ve checked out beaver island as well. It’s near the macinac bridge… My family has some land on Beaver and they are building a nice log cabin similar to that.

This place look so peaceful… It’s a beautiful idea you’ve realised there!
